A shipping container is a steel box that sweats. Uninsulated, a Canadian sea-can condenses heavily as inside and outside temperatures diverge - water runs down the walls and ruins whatever is stored. Closed-cell spray foam is the standard conversion insulation because it seals directly to the corrugated steel and stops the sweat.
Why closed-cell is the container answer
- It bonds to the corrugations: foam follows the ribbed steel with no gaps, where batt would leave voids that condense.
- It stops the sweat: the vapour-controlling closed-cell layer ends the condensation that defines an uninsulated container.
- Thin profile: a couple of inches gives real R without stealing the container's limited width.
What it enables
Container offices, on-site storage, workshops, and modular builds all become usable year-round once the steel is sealed. It is the same seal-the-steel logic as a metal building, in a smaller box.
