If you're vetting a spray foam contractor, two acronyms tell you whether they're legitimate: CAN/ULC-S705 and CUFCA. Here's what they actually mean.
CAN/ULC-S705.1 and .2
These are the Canadian standards for medium-density closed-cell spray foam. S705.1 defines the material - what the foam has to be. S705.2 defines the installation - how it must be applied. Together they're the benchmark a compliant closed-cell job is measured against.
CUFCA
The Certified Urethane Foam Contractors Association runs the ISO-9000-based quality-assurance program behind those standards. Under it, closed-cell must meet CAN/ULC-S705 and be applied by a certified installer carrying a photo ID renewed yearly, with recertification every five years. Open-cell has its own CAN/ULC standard.
