Spray foam looks simple - point and spray - but a good install is a controlled process, and the steps are where quality lives. Here's what a professional application actually involves.
The process
- Prep & protect: clean, dry substrate (no dust, frost or moisture), and mask everything not being sprayed.
- Condition: bring chemicals and substrate to the right temperature - critical in Alberta cold.
- Spray in lifts: the two parts meter and mix at the gun and are applied in controlled passes (closed-cell in limited lift thickness, not one thick coat).
- Cure: the foam expands and cures; the space is ventilated and kept clear for the manufacturer's re-occupancy window.
- Trim & finish: trim proud foam; in living space a thermal barrier goes over it.
