Wall Spray Foam Insulation

Walls are where a house meets the weather, and in Alberta the wind finds every gap batt insulation leaves around studs, outlets and top plates. Spray foam insulates and air-seals the wall cavity in one pass, so the R-value you pay for is the R-value you keep.

Which foam in a wall

  • Exterior and moisture-exposed walls: closed-cell (R-6 to R-7 per inch, vapour barrier at 2 inches) - the choice where water and cold are in play.
  • Interior and demising walls: open-cell (R-3.5 to R-3.8 per inch) - cost-effective and far better at sound control.

New build vs retrofit

Open wall cavities in a new build or gut reno are the ideal, cheapest case to spray. Closed walls are harder - the honest options are an exterior re-clad or opening the wall; two-part foam cannot be safely injected into a sealed cavity.
