In an ordinary warehouse that produces the familiar striping. In cold storage, running a large and sustained temperature difference, the same bridges are where frost forms and grows.

A continuous adhered layer over the framing - rather than insulation compressed between and against it - is the difference. That is the core argument for closed-cell foam in this application, and it is a continuity argument rather than an R-value one.

The direction of the problem reverses

Worth stating plainly, because it catches people out: in a heated building, moisture is driven from warm inside toward cold outside. In cold storage the interior is the cold side for much of the year, so the drive is inward - warm humid outside air pushing toward a cold interior.

That means vapour control belongs on a different face than in a heated building, and an assembly detailed as though it were a warm warehouse can be wrong in a very expensive way.

Anyone specifying cold storage should be able to explain which way vapour moves in your building and where the control layer sits. If they cannot, stop.
