Cold does not remove the condensation problem, it sharpens it
An unheated arch up here still sweats, and a heated one sweats harder. The colder the outside, the further the inside face of the steel sits below the dew point of whatever air is touching it, so the same building that manages in the shoulder season rains through the deep winter. Equipment brought in warm and wet from a shift makes it worse, because that is a large slug of moisture arriving in a closed building at the worst moment.
What that water does to stored equipment
It lands on machinery and stays. Connectors, harnesses, sensors and bearing seals fail from repeated damp rather than from a single wetting, and a building that drips all winter is delivering exactly that. Removing the cold surface is what stops it, and on a storage arch the roof deck is often the entire correct scope.
Why the shape decides the product
A quonset has no stud bays and no flat planes. Batt has nothing to sit in and rigid board cannot follow the curve without leaving voids behind it, and a void against cold steel is where the water collects out of sight. Foam bonds to the shell and takes its shape, so there is no cavity to condense in, and it is the insulation and the air barrier in one pass. The steel has to be clean and dry, with any active rust dealt with rather than sealed underneath.
