The wider and lower the roof, the longer the run from the eave to the ridge and the more of the space above the ceiling is shallow rather than tall. Long eave runs and what moves along them
On a house this wide the soffit runs a long way without interruption, and with nothing upwind the air entering it arrives with force rather than drifting. That air moves across the surface of loose insulation at the edges, carries heat off it, and pushes into any opening it finds at the top plate. Adding more depth into that airflow does less than owners expect. Sealing the plate line and stopping the air at the edge does considerably more, and it is a smaller job.
The ceiling under a room, not the attic over a house
Because so much of the Chestermere stock is two storey, the surface that matters is often not the main attic but the ceiling of an upstairs room with a low shallow space above it, sometimes over a projection or a bay that does not connect to the main roof space at all.
