Commercial spray foam insulation in Stettler covers two completely different building stocks that happen to share a town. There are the older blocks in the original commercial core, built for a different trade than the one occupying them now, and there are the steel buildings along the highway and in the service yards. A quote that does not distinguish between them is guessing.

The older core

These are masonry or wood-framed buildings with low-slope roofs, shared party walls and storefronts that have been altered more than once. The characteristic problems are a roof cavity nobody has opened in decades, an uninsulated or barely insulated back wall, and a basement or crawl under the retail floor that is tied into the building's air. Tenant fit-ups keep adding partitions without ever addressing the shell, so each new tenant inherits the same cold floor and the same drafty storefront.

Party walls carry air, not just sound

In a row of attached commercial buildings the shared wall is rarely sealed at the roof line. Air, smells and heat move between units through the gap where the wall meets the deck, and in winter one unit effectively pays to heat part of its neighbour. Sealing that junction is cheap relative to its effect and almost never in anyone's scope.

The steel buildings

Service shops, parts counters, contractor yards and light manufacturing space here are steel frame with steel cladding, and most of them are heated intermittently. Warm the building to work in it and the inside air takes on moisture from people, equipment and whatever is being done; that moisture reaches the cold underside of the deck and condenses; when the heat comes off it drips. On a floor full of steel stock, tooling and vehicles, that is a slow corrosion bill rather than a comfort complaint.

Why a continuous seal is the answer in both

In the old core the leaks are at the roof-wall junction, the party wall and the storefront. In a steel building they are at the purlins, the eave and the big doors. In both cases the common factor is air movement, and insulation does not stop air movement. Closed-cell foam sprayed against the inside face of the enclosure is continuous, adheres with no gap behind it, gives roughly R-6 to R-7 per inch, and becomes a vapour barrier at about two inches, so one application does the sealing and the insulating together.

Operating hours change the specification

A building that holds temperature around the clock and a building that is warmed for a shift and left to cool are different problems. The intermittent one is the condensation case, and it benefits more from a tight shell than from depth, because what it needs is fast recovery and no cold condensing surface. Tell us the schedule and it changes what we recommend before the area does.

Who quotes it and who sprays it

We do commercial spray foam insulation Stettler ourselves. We scope and quote it, we book it, and our own installers spray it -- one company, one point of contact.

Commercial Spray Foam Insulation Stettler: Common Questions

Our building is attached on both sides. Does that help? It helps with conduction and hurts with air. The party wall is usually open where it meets the roof deck, so heat and air pass between units.

Why does our shop drip after we warm it up? Because the interior air picks up moisture while the deck stays cold. The water condenses overhead and lets go when the building cools.

Is foam worth it on an older downtown building? Usually, but the order matters. The roof-wall junction and the party wall head come before anything cosmetic.

How much does commercial spray foam insulation cost in Stettler? It is priced per board foot over the area sprayed, so the enclosed surface area and the thickness set the figure. On an older building the access and the removal of existing finishes are often the larger part of the scope; on a steel building the height of the walls and the method of reaching the deck matter more.

How do I choose a commercial spray foam contractor in Stettler? Ask them which of the two local building types they have more of, and ask what they would do about the party wall or the purlins depending on which one you have.
