Metal building spray foam insulation in Stony Plain is work in the industrial and service area rather than downtown, and it is the one part of this town where the outside of a building is simply a building rather than something anybody is protecting.

The part of town where the exterior is available again

It is worth naming the contrast, because it changes what can be offered. On a steel building in the service area there is no reason to work from the inside if the outside would be better, and no constraint on replacing cladding, adding closures or dealing with the base of a wall from where it is easiest. That widens the options considerably compared with a downtown unit, and it means the right answer on one of these is decided by the building rather than by what is allowed.

What twenty or thirty years does to a blanket system

Nearly all of these went up with fibreglass blanket over the purlins in a thin facing. It works while it is new and it has a service life. The facing tears at the laps, the blanket compresses permanently where it crosses each purlin, and it eventually sags away from the sheet. From that point warm air reaches cold steel directly and the building starts producing water on its own ceiling. Owners describe it as a roof leak because that is what it looks like from underneath.

Doing the base of the wall properly, which is where these fail

On a steel building the bottom of the sheet is where the trouble accumulates: the closure that seals the corrugation to the base channel is missing or perished, water has been running down the inside of the sheet into that joint for years, and the slab edge is losing heat continuously into the ground. Every one of those is at the same place, all of them are reachable, and dealing with them together is much cheaper than doing the shell and leaving them. It is the first thing looked at rather than the last.

What a mezzanine adds that nobody accounts for

A good number of these have a mezzanine built into one end for storage or an office, and it changes the building in a way that is rarely priced. It puts a floor at the point where the warmest air in the building has collected, so anything on it sits in the heat while the working floor below stays cool, and it adds a substantial area of surface that is now inside the heated volume. It also gets in the way of the work: spraying the wall behind a mezzanine means either working around it or accepting a gap in the layer at exactly the height the warm air is. Deciding whether the mezzanine is inside or outside the treated envelope, and doing that consistently, is worth settling before anybody quotes.

Metal Building Spray Foam Insulation Stony Plain: The Covering Requirement

Where a Stony Plain building is a space people occupy, the foam takes a thermal barrier over it, and on a part-used building the boundary between the occupied bay and the cold storage section is where that requirement stops. Establishing where the line sits is part of the visit and it belongs in the quote from the start rather than being discovered later. More on thermal barrier vs ignition barrier.

Metal Building Spray Foam Insulation Stony Plain: Common Questions

Why does water drip off the ceiling steel? That is condensation on the sheet rather than a leak, and it is what this work stops.

Can we work from outside? On these, yes. That is the difference between the industrial area and the downtown buildings.

Where do we start? The base of the wall and the closures. It is where these buildings actually fail.
