The measure that matters for a Lethbridge shop is not how warm it gets. It is how fast it recovers after the door closes.
Why recovery is the right target
A shop door is enormous, and every cycle replaces the air in the building. That is unavoidable - you cannot insulate your way out of an opening that size.
What wind adds is that the losses continue after the door shuts. Steady pressure keeps pushing air through the gaps around the door track, at the eaves, through service penetrations and along the sill. A building that would coast for an hour in still conditions gives it up considerably faster with wind on it.
So the useful question when pricing work is not "what R-value" but "how quickly does this building come back to working temperature, and how long does it hold?" Sealing is what moves that number. Depth alone does not, because the air is going around the insulation rather than through it.
The door perimeter is usually the biggest single gap
It is also the one most often left out of a quote. Ask about it directly - the seal around and above the door track, and the condition of the weather seal at the floor. On many shops that single detail is worth more than adding depth anywhere else.
Agricultural and food-processing yards
Lethbridge sits at the centre of an irrigated agri-food region, and a lot of shops here serve that: equipment maintenance, produce handling, transport.
Two things follow. Buildings that see washing or wet processing carry a much heavier moisture load against the envelope than a dry workshop, and vapour control has to be deliberate rather than incidental. And buildings that hold anything temperature-sensitive depend on the continuity of the assembly far more than on headline R-value - a gap is where control is lost and where condensation forms.
Say what happens inside the building when you enquire. It changes the specification, not just the quantity.
Condensation and equipment
Warm moist air reaching a cold steel deck condenses and drips onto whatever is below. In a shop full of tools, machinery and vehicles that is corrosion - slow, continuous, and expensive over years.
