Langdon counted 279 residents in the 1991 census and 5,497 in 2021. Practically everything standing in the hamlet today went up inside those three decades, and the handful of buildings that came earlier are survivors from a village that surrendered its status in 1946 and shrank to about a hundred people by 1950. Spray foam insulation in Langdon therefore means working on one of two unrelated building stocks, and the first thing we need to establish on the phone is which of them you own.

Two stocks, and almost nothing in between

Most Alberta towns grew steadily, so a contractor arriving at an address can expect a bungalow from the sixties or a split from the eighties. Langdon does not offer that. It offers a code-era house with a modern depth of insulation already in it, or it offers something from the village years with no air barrier anywhere in the assembly. The middle decades, when the original rail line through town had been demoted to a branch and the population sat near a hundred, produced almost no buildings at all. That gap is why a quote here has to be sized from the building rather than from the postal code.

The yard, not the building, is the unit of work

This is a hamlet inside Rocky View County rather than a town with its own hall, and a large share of Langdon addresses are acreage parcels carrying a house, an oversized garage and at least one outbuilding. Crews travel out to reach them. The sensible way to buy this work is to have everything on the parcel looked at in one visit and quoted together, because the shop, the garage ceiling and the rim joist in the house are the same crew, the same rig and the same day. Treating them as three separate jobs across three seasons is how an acreage owner ends up paying for the same mobilisation three times.

Closed cell and open cell are not a matter of taste

Closed-cell foam runs about R-6 to R-7 per inch and becomes a vapour barrier in its own right at roughly two inches, which is why it is the product against concrete, against steel and in any unvented assembly. Open-cell runs about R-3.5 to R-3.8 per inch, stays vapour-open and is the better choice inside the house for interior partitions and sound work. The building decides. Anyone who offers you one product for every surface on the parcel is selling what is in the truck.

What actually goes wrong on a house this new

Insulation does not stop air movement; air sealing does. On a Langdon subdivision house the depth was specified and installed, and the air barrier was left to whoever was on site that week. So the complaints are specific and repeatable: the floor over the garage, the cantilevered bay, the rim joist, the ceiling penetrations, the top plate where an interior wall meets the attic. None of those is solved by adding material on top of material. All of them are solved by closing an opening.

How the work is priced

Foam is priced per board foot over the area sprayed, so the number follows surface area and target depth. That means the variables you control are how much of the building gets treated and to what R-value, and the variables we have to see for ourselves are access, what has to come off first, and whether the heated zone is being redrawn. We do not quote a Langdon building from a description, because on this stock the description and the assembly disagree more often than not.

Spray Foam Insulation Langdon: Common Questions

My house is fifteen years old. Is there anything to gain? Yes, but not from depth. On a house that age the gain is in the joints and penetrations, and in the floor over the garage if you have a room up there.

Can you do the house and the shop on the same visit? That is the right way to do it on an acreage. One mobilisation covers both, and the shop is usually where the bigger comfort change comes from.

Do I need a permit from Rocky View County? It depends on the work. Changing a garage or an outbuilding into heated, finished space is a county matter, and the covering over the foam is part of what gets looked at.

How much does spray foam insulation cost in Langdon? It is priced per board foot of sprayed area at the depth the assembly needs, so the scope sets the number. On Langdon's newer stock the scope is usually a short list of specific assemblies rather than a whole building.

Who does spray foam insulation in Langdon? We do. We quote the job from the building, schedule it and stand behind the work, and on a county parcel we would rather look at every building on it once than come back twice.
