Shipping container spray foam insulation in Nisku is mostly not about storage. In an energy service and fabrication park, containers get built out into working enclosures: a heated housing around a pump or a compressor, a shelter over instrumentation and controls, a small electrical building, a shelter for something that has to keep running at a site hundreds of kilometres north of here. The container is the easiest available pressure-tight, liftable, truckable box, so it becomes the shell for equipment. That use sets the requirements, and they are stricter than storage requirements.

A box around running equipment

Put a machine inside a sealed steel box and the box has a heat source in it whether anyone planned for one or not. That changes the whole problem. Now the interior is warm and probably dry, the shell is cold, and the question is whether the warm air can reach the cold steel. If it can, it condenses. If the enclosure also cycles, running hot while the equipment works and cooling when it stops, it will go through that cycle repeatedly. Closed-cell applied to the inside of the corrugations removes the cold surface and acts as its own vapour control at roughly two inches, which is why it is the product used in this position and why a thin cosmetic pass is not adequate.

Condensation above electronics

The ceiling is the surface to get right, because it is directly above everything expensive. Warm air rises, the roof panel of a container is thin and exposed to the sky, and anything that forms up there drips onto a control panel or a termination box. On an enclosure containing electronics the roof gets the full specification and gets it first, with the corners and the junction to the side walls treated as part of the same continuous surface rather than as separate faces.

It is going to be lifted and trucked

This is the detail that distinguishes the work here. These units are built in a yard in the park and then craned onto a trailer and hauled, often a long way, often in winter, over roads that are not smooth. The structure flexes in transit. Anything fitted inside has to be mechanically fastened to the container's own structure and not to the foam, and anything bonded has to tolerate movement. Closed-cell adheres and stays adhered through that better than anything mechanically hung, which is a genuine reason it is specified here rather than a preference. Blocking for interior fixings goes on the steel before the foam, with positions recorded, so nothing has to be cut back later.

Penetrations, because there will be many

Cable glands, conduit entries, vents, exhaust, drain, a stack, a louvre for combustion air. Every one is a hole through the shell and every one is a condensation path if it is foamed around rather than sealed through. They get located and detailed as part of the build, and where a penetration is added after the fact it gets sealed properly rather than hit with a can of foam.

The floor and the doors

The original floor in a container is a thick wooden deck on steel cross members, and it may have been treated or may have carried anything at all. On an equipment build it is often overlaid or replaced, and the underside between the cross members is where insulation goes if the unit is going to be heated. The cargo doors are a separate decision: they are the single biggest thermal weakness and their gaskets are designed for weather, not for air tightness. On many of these builds one end gets sealed shut permanently and a proper personnel door is cut in instead, which is a better outcome than trying to make a cargo door perform.

Shipping Container Spray Foam Insulation Nisku: Common Questions

Why does the inside of the roof drip on the equipment? Because the panel is thin, exposed and cold, and the equipment is warming the air below it. The water is condensation from the enclosure's own air, not a leak.

How thick does it need to be? Enough to act as the vapour control as well as the insulation, which for closed-cell is roughly two inches as a minimum. A thin decorative pass creates a warm surface and leaves the problem.

Will the foam survive being trucked north? Adhered closed-cell handles transit well, which is a real reason it is used on these builds. Anything fitted inside must be fastened to the container's structure, not to the foam.

How much does shipping container spray foam insulation cost in Nisku? It is priced per board foot at the thickness specified, so a container is a known and fairly predictable area. Blocking, penetration detailing and any floor work are separate small items.

Who does shipping container spray foam insulation in Nisku? We do. We quote the build in the yard where it is being assembled, coordinate with whoever is fitting the equipment, and stand behind the work.
